Embracing Simplicity

Let me start by sharing a personal turning point: After finishing my two-year rotation at ZeniBank, I felt a little adrift. It suddenly hit me—after nearly three years working full-time as a software engineer, I had amassed a wealth of skills. The question was, what was I going to do with them?

Around this time, I realized I was spending hours each day playing video games—Rocket League and Overwatch were my main staples. They were fun (trust me, hitting a perfect aerial in Rocket League is quite satisfying), but I started wondering, “What more can I do with my time?”

That’s when I made a simple but powerful decision: I switched to a newer MacBook and eventually sold my gaming PC. This shift freed up an enormous amount of time and mental space. Suddenly, I found myself thinking: “If I have this extra time now, how can I put it to better use?”

My answer led me straight into exploring business ideas and stoking an entrepreneurial mindset.

Why Simplicity Matters

My love of simplicity really flourished after I cut out the distraction of gaming. I’ve always admired Apple’s ecosystem for its effortless syncing between devices—iPhone, Apple Watch, Apple TV… they all work so seamlessly. This kind of simplicity fuels creativity rather than hindering it.

In imagining my own web development agency, I want that same frictionless experience for my clients. They shouldn’t have to wrestle with awkward tech tools or worry about design details not syncing. Ideally, everything just works, so they can focus on running their businesses.

Investing in Myself

My passion for personal finance traces back to my freshman year at the University of South Florida, when I’d watch Dave Ramsey videos while playing Fortnite. That phase sparked a deep interest in understanding money and led me to Ramit Sethi’s book, I Will Teach You To Be Rich. At first, it didn’t stick—I was an intern at NextEra Energy, and talk of 401(k)s and Roth IRAs felt premature.

Once I started working full-time, though, Sethi’s insights clicked. I automated my savings and investing and built a solid emergency fund. After all, knowing I could handle unexpected challenges helped me sleep better at night.

But then another question popped up: “Okay, so I’m set for retirement one day… now what about enjoying my 20s in a meaningful way?” That’s where investing in myself came in—through books, courses, and a determination to keep learning. A big part of that has been pouring my extra time (formerly spent gaming) into launching a freelance web development business.

Lessons Learned from the Abundance Mindset

My shift toward entrepreneurship took root in two key realizations:

  1. There’s a Limit to What You Can Cut—But No Limit to What You Can Earn
    Ramit Sethi famously says, “There’s a limit to how much you can cut, but no limit to how much you can earn.” Yes, you can budget and coupon-clip until you’re blue in the face—but at some point, you’ve got to look for ways to increase your income.

  2. Systems Make Life Easier
    Whether it’s Apple’s integrated gadgets or a well-oiled business process, I’ve learned that the best systems free you to focus on your next big goal. If something can run smoothly in the background, it frees up mental bandwidth for creativity and innovation.

Building My Web Development Agency

My goal is to design fast, elegant, and responsive websites that shine on desktop and mobile alike. Many people have told me, “Wow, you could actually charge for this,” and that lit a spark. Why not offer a hassle-free, streamlined experience—much like my Apple devices—so clients barely have to think about the tech details?
